Foundations and geotechnics

Scope. Geotechnical studies and design of shallow and deep foundations, earth-retaining structures and slope stability, in accordance with NSR-10 Title H.

Design method. The geotechnical study and the foundation design are carried out as a single piece of work, with the soil parameters and the structural loads in one model. Spread footings, mat foundations, drilled shafts and caissons are designed, and bearing capacity and settlements are checked for the governing load cases.

Retention and excavations. For excavations next to existing buildings, stability is assessed at every construction stage and in the final condition.

Uncertainty. When the scatter of the soil parameters is high, its effect is quantified with sensitivity and reliability analysis.
