Life safety (NSR-10 Titles J and K)
Fire protection and means of egress under NSR-10 Titles J and K.
Scope. Life safety and fire protection studies required by NSR-10 Titles J and K for building permits, legalization of existing buildings and changes of use.
Method. The study classifies the building by occupancy group, computes the occupant load, checks the means of egress and sets the fire protection requirements and the fire resistance of the structural members.
Existing buildings. In clinics, hotels and other buildings in operation, the study is coordinated with the structural assessment so that the egress and retrofit recommendations are compatible.

Life safety, code advisory and supervision in one minute
An eight-storey office building taken through NSR-10. Title K sets two exits and 1.20 m stairs, and the hydraulic model gives nine minutes to evacuate 960 people. Title J calls for a two-hour fire rating: the thermal analysis of the slab shows the reinforcement failing at 82 minutes with 20 mm of cover and holding with 30 mm. The independent review that Law 1796 requires above 2,000 m² identifies a soft first storey and defines its correction, and on site technical supervision keeps quality, cost and schedule under control through concrete acceptance and earned value.
